Born and raised in Hong Kong, Kai Kiu Lui (Aris) moved to Seattle, Washington in 2016 for his Associate of Art, and will be finishing his BFA Film and TV Production in Cinematography concentration with a Screenwriting minor at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois.

Inspired by his father, who is a camera operator and cinephile, Aris is deeply dedicated to building the emotional connection between the visual and the story for the audience. He first found his filmmaking passion by doing photography for his secondary school in Hong Kong. He realized photography is an expression and it has gilded him to become a filmmaker. Although Aris’ recent work is mainly in digital video format, he remains strongly influenced by still photography.

Aris believes films are more than just entertainment: “Visual storytelling is the most subtle but powerful tool to connect people and change the world.” Thus, He is enthusiastic in all kinds of creative processes to express the messages as his voice at its best.

Aris was the Best Cinematography Award Winner at the 2023 DePaul Premiere Film Festival. A short documentary that he colored, Blessed Michael McGivney's Little Secretary: The Life of Baby Josephina, was awarded at the 67th NY Emmy.

He’s currently working as a Prep Tech at Old Fast Glass alongside freelancing on independent projects in LA and Chicago.
